So I'm fairly young compared to the other employees at my university and I often blend in with my students. Though I have a few blemishes from time to time I don't wear a foundation. My mother thinks that I should have some type of coverage and that it would be appropriate for my position at work. I wouldn't mind a product that had slight tint. Or maybe something that adds a little glow for African American skin tones or something like that, but I don't even know if that exists. What should I look at, where should I even start?

I haven't had any success with tinted moisturizers for my skin color, most are too light, but I am a huge fan of mineral make up. Pur Minerals makes some great colors, BE (though I'm having issues matching my winter skin color), and Valana (online) specializes in mineral foundation for women of color (I'm going to order some samples in a few days). Mineral make up can give you a sheer coverage if applied lightly, so I would suggest looking into that.
If someone can recommend a good tinted moisturizer for brown skin I would be excited to hear.
1I recommend Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 (also, use the primer, it does make a difference). It gives a nice, dewy look that a Lot of people love. I wish you the best of luck in finding what you're looking for!
2I recently bought Mac Select spf foundation and I love it. It's medium coverage but still allows your skin to show through.
3LM's Tinted Moisturizer in the darkest color was to light for me
.
4Stila seems to do a reasonable range of tinted moisturizers, and I've heard that people like the product. Perhaps that would work?
My daily go-to liquid foundation is currently L'Oreal True Match (preferred it to Estee Lauder, among others). Decent coverage, but not too heavy-looking (to me). You might give that a try, too. It does a range of colors in cool, warm and neutral with coordinating concealer, powder and blush.

If you can't find a tinted moisturiser in your colour, try buying a liquid foundation and blending it with your facial moisturiser
Bigger shade selection, plus you can choose exactly how much coverage you'd like!
I find that eye makeup, not foundation, is the main thing to looking "older" - mascara and a little bit of eyeliner easily adds five years to my face (in a good way), whereas a good base and cheek colour add not age but a more polished, refined effect. Maybe try a cream cheek colour, something you can just dot on and smudge in on-the-go? (I can get my cheeks done in under a minute with my Stila CC!) And keep in mind that the whole smokey-eye-glossy-nude-lip is what sets apart most of the students from the profs, lol! I'd stay matte or semi-matte for the lip if you're doing one.
Keep looking young - I'm sure we'll all appreciate being confused for students twenty years down the road!
6I'm a fan of Bare Minerals makeup, I've been using it for years.

7I'd try Bare Minerals.
