Is it poor hygiene? WRONG -Oil and bacteria, not outside dirt, cause acne; even if you wash each day you can still get zits. The key is the right regimen.
Is it wearing makeup? WRONG -Makeup itself doesn't cause zits, but some products can clog pores or trigger allergic reactions. Pick oil-free formulas; wash it all of before bed.
Is it because of lot's of stress? TRUE -Stress causes hormone levels to change, which makes oil glands go into overdrive. Too much oil, and pores get clogged.
Is it because of excess washing? TRUE -Washing hard doesn't make skin extra clean- it just strips away moisture. That makes skin irritated and more likely to break out.
Did you know that 67% of people say it is extremely important to them to have clear skin?
Routines for for your acne severity:
If your acne is...
Light (a mix of whiteheads, a few red bumps, and blackheads)
A.M. & P.M. : Use a cleanser. Use a warming salicylic acid cleanser specifically. The warmth will open up your pores so the salicylic acid can reach the deep-down dirt
Try: Biore Warming Anti-Blackhead Cleanser
Once a week: Use a mask. A mask you use in the shower is an easy way to give yourself a mini facial. It works with the steam to clear out clogged pores.
Try: Clean&Clear Soft In-Shower Facial
Moderate (lots of red pimples that have come to a head)
A.M. & P.M. : Use a face wash. Look for a product with glycolic acid, a fruit extract that exfoliates and kills the bacteria that forms overnight.
Try: Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power Cream Wash
Once a week: Use a scrub. Wash with an exfoliating scrub to loosen flaky skin, dirt, and oil, and whisk them away when you rinse.
Try: Avon Clearskin Professional Deep Pore Cleansing Scrub
Severe (clusters of big red bumps that are swollen and painful)
A.M. & P.M. : Use a medicated wash. You need a cleanser with the maximum amount of beta hydroxy acid (2%) to target your specific type of bacteria.
Try: Peter Thomas Roth Beta Hydroxy Acid 2% Acne Wash
Once a week: Use an overnight treatment. On days when zits get really bad, try a strong spot treatment with a powder formula- it won't rub off while you sleep.
Try: Cosmedicine Speedy Recovery Nighttime Blemish Powder
Littlewoods
Thanks for the tips!!!!
1I like the Biore and Neutrogena cleanser. I have heard good things about the Clean and Clear Steam facial. I am curious about the Avon scrub. I have been happy with a lot of their other products and like their reasonable prices. Anyone actually try the Avon scrub?
2Your welcome scully
I'm happy to help.
I'll see if anyone uses the scrub and see what they say
3sofi: Yeah, I use the Clean and Clear in-shower facial myself, and it works great
Sounds like a great regimen.
4I just bought the Steam Facial last week and I like it so far. I have used it twice and am noticing a difference already. I have been unable to find the Biore Anti - blackhead warming cleanser anywhere I go. I will keep looking!!!
5Hormones cause my breakouts
6carrieann, the one thing I don't like about the biore is how thick and 'goupy'(?) it is. I suffer (lol) from being very lazy in the evening and just the thought of using it doesn't appeal to me often. I do like it as a product but just working it around and rinsing it properly is a hassle for lazy me. I need to buy the Steam Facial once I am able to make room for it on the shower shelf.
7LOL Sofi I am lazy at night too. there are times that I don't even wash my face GASP!!! More often than not I don't wash my face at night
I am trying to get better about washing it at night though. I have had a horrible break
out the last few weeks, especially, on my neck and between the eyebrows the last few weeks. Just a bunch of black heads that wont go away. I am trying to get that all cleared up.
8I know how you feel carrieann9016. There are some nights where I just wanna hit the pillow, but I force myself to wash my face. There have been times where I haven't bothered doing it.
:S
9The Clean & Clear Steam in-shower facial is great. I started using it a couple of months ago and have seen a marked improvement.
10Yeah, it really does make a difference. Before I started using it, I had patches of dryness on my cheeks. Now, after using it for about 2-3 months, there's a huge improvement.
11I am doing so much better at washing my face lately at night
to me!!!! LOL I am still
having an issue with an outbreak on my neck!!! GRRR It's driving me crazy. Now they are all red and inflamed where as before they were just bumps. At least I can hide them under turtlenecks
right now!!! LOL I am going to start changing my pillowcase more often thinking that is the part of the problem. I have never had a breakout like this on my neck!! My forehead is much much
better now. Just a little dry this week hopefully that will go away soon!!! I just want to be cleared up all over at the same time!!!! This breakout started when Oil of Olay changed their
cleansing cloths that I use. I blame them!!
12Thanks so much for these tips - I'm in the middle of a job change and my complexion is suffering from the stress!
13Your welcome
14You're* oops
15Thank you for posting!!
I really really want to try the Clean&Clear in shower facial.
16You're welcome, I'm happy to help.
The in-shower facial is great. I've gotten my
