Bella recently did a post on the best teeth whiteners available, and it reminded me of my lingering curiosity about teeth whitening.
What has your experience been with Crest Whitestrips and similar products? What about whitening toothpastes?
Also, I've been hesitant to try whitening because I fear that once I do it, I'll never be able to stop and my teeth will seem too yellow if I do! I'm also afraid of what it could to do my teeth long term... do these products harm your teeth in any way, ie. weaken them, strip enamel, etc.?

I used Crest Whitestrips when they first came out. They worked but are expensive and do not last as long as a Dentist whitening. Also, my hubby couldn't handle the strips they really hurt his sensitive teeth. I am looking into going to the dentist for the tray whitening, not Zoom.
1Crest whitestrips = Ow, OW, and MORE OW. Think I permanently damaged my teeth with those - plus they made my gums bleed after every use. I literally had tears in my eyes the first time I used them. My dentist said that I should stay away from those strips because they contain an ingredient (too lazy to look it up right now) that does damage the enamel, and since mine is already thin to begin with, it's even worse. Now my teeth are even more sensitive than they were before. But I did see results - so maybe no pain no gain? That is, if you don't want to be able to eat even remotely warm or chilly foods for a while!
2I just tried the Listerine Quick Dissolving White Strips this morning and I did NOT have a good experience with them. Mainly my issue was with the taste of the strips as they were dissolving - Disgusting.
I don't think I applied them incorrectly (it's pretty simple), but since it was my first use I will try again and let you know if I have better results.
They are definitely not as messy as Crest Whitestrips and you don't have to brush your teeth 30-60 min. afterwards, so I'm really crossing my fingers they work for me!
3Years ago i tried a Rembrant whitening version and those made my teeth very sensitive. I think if just using them to achieve a certain level of whiteness then you should be fine as long as you dont go overboard. That being said the Classic Crest Whitestrips are on sale at target for 17.99.
4you can buy whitening gell from your dentist ($30 for a box with 4 syringes) you use mouth molds (which you can make with an over the counter whiteners) and use the professional strength gel.
i did this and then did the zoom whitening and there was no difference afterwards, the store bought stuff did the trick.
they make tooth paste for sensitive teth (sensidine i think) and there is also aquafresh advanced strengthening formula that strengthens tooth enamel and whitens.
5I use bleaching gel (OxyDent, I think it is) that goes in molded trays (I get it straight from the source, 'cos my mum is a dental hygienist), and it works pretty well. You have to do it quite regularly to keep the results dramatic - or at least I do, because I have a nasty tea-drinking habit - but it doesn't hurt my teeth at all.
6My Dentist told me that Zoom isn't that exciting. It costs a lot for the same results as the molds/trays.
7I did Zoom and it hurt like a biatch. That night I was in A LOT of pain. You couldn't pay me to do it again. I also got zero results. Trays from the DDS work much better.
8I read about how dangerous DIY home whitening kits are, they literally melt off your gum or cause cancer or something. Proceed with caution. Such treatments should be left to the professionals.
9I really like whitening toothpaste, I only use it every second day.
10I've tried several brands and such at the drugstore but didn't get any results. So I went to my dentist and they made the mold of my teeth etc. The first and second gel they gave me didn't work. The third gel worked like a charm. It does make your teeth sensitive the next day but just use Sensodyne toothpaste. That always does the trick. Now I whiten on a once a month (or so) just for maintenance. I'm so glad I found something that works because my confidence soared when I was able to smile with white teeth
