I purchased this at Sephora after hearing so many of you popples raving about it. For those of you not in the know, here's the description from Sephora.com:
Get Started Kit - Fairly Light/Light
Price: $60 ($181 Value)
Begin with the right foundation! If you hate the look and feel of traditional makeup, but you want to cover imperfections, redness, or other skin conditions, join the other seven million women who swear by their bareMinerals - the makeup that performs like a skincare treatment.
The Get Started Kit will get you on your way to beautiful, radiant skin. Made of pure crushed minerals from the earth, bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation looks like a powder, feels like a cream, and buffs on like silk, giving the skin a natural luminosity. It's makeup so pure you can sleep in it.
This complete kit includes all the basic products to achieve radiant skin:
-Two shades of bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation to ensure the perfect match. (Size: 0.06 oz)
-bareVitamins Skin Rev-er Upper: can be applied daily before applying bareMinerals to rev up your skin
-Mineral Veil: provides a translucent finishing touch to your makeup, infusing it with softness and adding a flawless finish. (Size: 0.06 oz)
-Warmth All Over Face Color: add an instant sun-kissed glow to skin where the sun would naturally touch. (Size: 0.06 oz)
-Flawless Application Brush
-Full Coverage Kabuki Brush
-Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush
-Bonus! A How-to DVD for tried and true beauty tips from Leslie Blodgett, Bare Escentuals CEO.
I also bought the i.d. bareMinerals Multi-Tasking Minerals in Well-Rested (yellow-ivory). Here's that description from Sephora.com:
Besides working as a beautiful, soft eyeshadow base, Multi-Tasking Bisque also performs as a miracle concealer for your face, covering dark circles and skin imperfections. Apply directly onto brown and red spots, blemishes, broken capillaries, scars and other areas of skin imperfections. Use Bisque for lighter complexions and Summer Bisque for deeper, golden complexions. Plus, enjoy the added SPF 20 in Summer Bisque for year round sun protection that won't sting your eyes like traditional creams and lotions.
When I first got the kit, I wasn't too thrilled with it. But as I developed my own routine with the cosmetics, I'm more and more thrilled. There are a few components to the kit that I don't use, but most of it is very helpful.
I'll go step by step, since what I do is somewhat different than what the instructions on the DVD say to do.
Before I start with the BE, I wash and dry my face, and moisturize. And, if I have any dark blemishes, or if my undereye circles are really bad, I might begin with some liquid concealer just on those areas first.
Step 1: bareVitamins Skin Rev-er Upper

I apply this just like moisturizer
Step 2: bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation in Fairly Light

The kit I got comes with two foundations, Light and Fairly Light. I'm using the Fairly Light in the winter. In the summer, when I have some color, I may be able to use the Light instead.
Although the girl at Sephora used the Flawless Application Brush, I'm having more luck with the Full Coverage Kabuki Brush, which I

Dump a bit of foundation in the lid of the makeup. Swirl the Kabuki Brush into the makeup, tap the extra off, and buff the makeup onto your face.
Swirl, Tap, Buff. Repeat that mantra in your mind!
Step 3: Concealer
The foundation can also be used as a concealer if you use the Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush.

The makeup goes on a bit thicker and more precise with this brush, and it covers my blemishes very well.
Then, I use the same brush to apply the i.d. bareMinerals Multi-Tasking Minerals. I bought the Well Rested, which is a yellowish-ivory. I apply it to my undereye circles using the Concealer Brush.

Step 4: away from the realm of BE
I apply my Benefit High-Beam and Stila Blush as usual. It looks fine on top of the BE.
Step 5: Mineral Veil
I apply this with the Kabuki Brush to give my face a finished look.
Voila! Now I'm beautiful! Well, not really, but I'm less flawed than I was before!
Now the stuff I don't use:
Flawless Application Brush
Nothing wrong with this brush, really. I just prefer the Kabuki
Warmth All Over Face Color
When the girl at Sephora put this on me, she remarked how it looked really dark in the container but went on very light. And when she put it on me, it looked fantastic.
When I put it on myself, I look like a train wreck. A streaky, orange train wreck. Since I prefer to be rosy instead of bronzed anyway, I put this one away. Maybe I'll give it another shot someday.
So, that's it.
If anyone has used any of the eye or lip makeup by BE, I'd be really interested in hearing about it.
My review:

4 out of 5 pimps. Although there are a ton of steps, the makeup is super easy to apply and it looks natural, not cakey. The true test will be in the summer, when I'm sweaty. I'm a bit nervous about that because the other day, when I was crying at the end of the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie (shut up), the Well Rested got wet and pancakey under my eyes. But I'm crossing my fingers...

Playtex
hmmmmm sounds like a lot of work!! hahhaa I need new foundation- I am using chanel and they DISCONTINUED MY COLOR!!! should i try this? I have combo skin....
1I have used both
I like the lipsticks okay, they are very creamy and true the the tube.
They eyeshadows are soso for me...not my favorites. I actually like the L'Oreal HIP better. I also tried the mascara, I really hated that. It barely showed up at all, and either that or the BE eyeshadow made my eyes itch. I kknow this cuz I started using it the sane time.
2la clique-- is that the time when you were no longer crazy, the "sane" time?
3There is NO sane time
4It does sound like a lot of work but it goes really quickly, I swear! It goes on so easily and smoothly that it doesn't take a lot of time at all.
I have combination skin, too, and so far so good.
5
hahaha you silly chica
6hmmm thanks for the info whip i may try it....
7Whip, underneath the pic. of your Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush...is that a pic. of the concealer (the little pic. right underneath)? Basically, I'm wondering is the concealer a powder too? Also, do you think maybe, you could put a pic. up of yourself in your suite so, I can see this stuff in action? I'm thinking it might be perfect for me in the spring/summer instead of my liquid foundation because, it's so humid in FL (where I live). I'll check back for any answers...thanks for any help.
Also, I'm glad to hear the High Beam works with the BE. Oh, my last very important question...can you check to see if these products are 100 percent
oil-free?? I can't put ANY product that contains oil on my face.
I would def. have to order
this stuff through the mail (I don't want to order it & have to return it all - because of the oil thing). Thanks again, sweetie.
8Yes, the little pic is the shade of the concealer.
I could put a pic of myself up but I don't think it'd make a difference. My camera takes really blurry close-ups.
9Nice review, Whip!
10Great review. I use the eyeshadows and like them. Haven't tried the lipsticks though.
11BB, these are all powders...the concealer is just more of the foundation in a little brush
No oil, just minerals ground up
It is super humid here in TN, it is the best stuff I've ever used.
I can PM you a pic with the foundation on if you like
I sent one
of myself and a friend, dif complexions, to fashiondoll. Just let me know
12Oh, BTW, GOOD REVIEW Whip! I was answering your quetions and forgot to tell you. The longer you wear this, the easier it gets to put on. I swear, full face for work it 10 minutes..most of that eyemakeup if I wear any that day.
I use the full coverage brush for highliters or blush, btw. I like the kabuki for the foundation, too. Better coverage.
and the warmth doesnt work for me either. Maybe I need a lesson.
13I put my warmth up on my swap list on MUA unopened.
14I swear to God, it's almost worth the $60 just for the Kabuki brush. I love it!!
15Whip, thanks sooo much for some answers.
la_clique, I'm glad to hear it's 100 percent oil-free.
I would love if you pmed me a
pic. This sounds like such an easy routine, and perfect for humid weather. There is no rush (on the pic.) because, I'll probably buy it in the spring (well, right before spring - when it
warms up a little). Instead, of buying the starter kit (with some things I know I won't use, like certain colors...I'll probably buy the bigger containers of the colors that work for me. But,
I def. want the WHOLE routine plus, a bronzer.) Is the bareVitamins Skin Rev-er Upper also 100 percent oil-free?? I know you said all the BE products were oil-free...I just want to be 100
percent positive. lol Thanks for helping me out...this sounds perfect!!
16Girls, do I need to purchase the brushes if already have some good ones? I've got a really big one (like Kabuki brush), and many smaller ones.
17I wonder if the warmth would be a good bronzer for the summer.
18THIS SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF WORK TO BEGIN WITH AND THEN I DON'T REALLY USE ALL THAT MAKEUP EITHER BUT I DO WANT TO BUY THE BRONZERS TOUGH
19i love this stuff. it's the only makeup i'll put on my skin.
20Great review!
I got the exact same kit from Sephora this past Saturday and I love this makeup! Like Whip, I don't solely use their products. I use my own concealer, blush and eyeshadow...for now since they were all brand new when I made the foundation switch.
I apply a cream concealer under my eyes between the moisturizer and foundation steps.
Whip...give the warmth another try. It really adds something! I still use my "flush" blush over the top of it and it's not too much. It looks like I'm sun-kissed and slightly flushed at the same time.
When applying warmth, use the Flawless Application brush with the smallest bit of warmth in the lid. Sweep lightly over your cheeks, nose and forehead for the lightest hint of sun and healthy glow!
21BB, not sure what is in the rever-upper. I don't actually like that, gave it away. But I'm sure you can see all the contents on their website or sephoras.
22la_clique, I'll def. check.
A lot of times (believe it or not) some make-up sites
don't list what's in them...it drives me crazy! Thanks again.
P.S. I really look
forward to the pic.
23I love Bare Minerals. I received the Goddess kit for my bday last year and it's awesome. It had powdered eye liner and liner brush, gossamer eye shadow (very sheer) Eggplant eyeshadow that doubles as eyeliner. Gossamer lip gloss and a pink tinted lipgloss that smells like chocolate. I absolutely loved that stuff to death (literally). I use the warmth and I'm very light, trick is you only need a pinhead amount and swish it around and only apply it to the apples of your cheeks and lightly dust across your forehead, nose and chin. I use that as eye shadow from time to time, it's more of a coral color, but pretty by the brow. It's more of a bronzer and if I don't use it, I look like a ghost, LOL!
24Great review Whip!! I would try this stuff, but I'm very VERY apprehensive about powder products. Don't ask me why, I must of had a
run in with powder in a past life.
25No you did NOT
at the end of the movie. You are such a
.
26Aw, shaddup, Crispy!
SPOILER ALERT TO DEFEND MYSELF. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF HARRY POTTER #4, IGNORE THIS!
Cedric DIES! It's sad! Especially when his dad is crying.
27i am just afraid to use it because except for my chin the rest of my face IS SO DRY. and i had some mineral makeup a year or two ago i got off an infomercial (leeza gibbons promoted it) and it made my face feel and look so powdery and dry.
28It doesn't dry me out, aud. Just exfoliate and use a good moisturizer. I have very dry skin
29Whip, I've been over here studying Bare Escentuals on the Sephora site. I just noticed, in your blog, that you said...the make-up is THE concealer.
I'm trying to figure out everything I need for a healthy looking foundation. I'm happy
with my blush, lip & eye make (basically, everything else). So, sorry about the stupid ques. earlier...I guess I'm def. SUC member. lol
Also, I'll probably write a blog about the products I'm going to buy & questions (I already typed it in a word doc. to help me remember. lol) So, all the BE girls can comment on the products they love, and hopefully tell me what else I might need. Or, I might just call a store in Atlanta (where I used to live) & talk to someone personally. lol Thanks again, for your blog...it finally got me motivated for spring/summer make-up.
30http://www.bareminerals.com
They explain everything and show you how to put it on, put on as concealer, etc...
There are how-to videos on here girls.
31Audrey, I thought you used bareMinerals All-Over Face Color?
The site gives this description (also, it comes in many colors): "provides a natural luminosity that is similar to the dewiness of a child's skin. Sweep these illuminating minerals on your cheeks, forehead, and chin for an instant goddess glow." Maybe, someone else wrote about it...my memory isn't that great. I wish..I saved all Bare Escentuals blogs...arggg.
I just know I've read this description somewhere on this site.
Also, I'm wondering if this is the same stuff as the "Warmth All Over Face Color" (mentioned in the blog).
It comes in the color "Warm". I think all those who hate the warmth should try the "Sheer Translucent Glow" color (if it's the same thing). Here is the link below
if anyone is interested:
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P61005&categoryId=C10470
I think this stuff sounds & looks wonderful, and I def. want it for fall/winter months.
The 4 out of 5
is kind of freaking me out. I want 5 out of 5
Does anyone know if this (foundation routine) sinks into fine lines? Because, I have a few fine lines. My hubby always says I look younger without liquid foundation (and, I agree). So, I'm really trying HARD to find a foundation routine to create a flawless & healthy glow.
I hope the BE discussion continues.
32no i don't use any bare minerals products bb.
33la_clique, I was just heading there...thanks for the link.
First,
I want to read all the comments on this blog. Then, sometime today, do a search for any/all Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals blogs. I need personal testimonies. lol
34audrey, thanks for answering me, girlie.
My memory is horrible about certain things.
35BB, all I can say is try it. There is no way to know if it will work on YOU until you do. Descriptions are great, but they are written by PR people, it is their job to make it sound good.
Sephora and Bare Minerals will take all products back, so you really don't lose anything by trying.
The site I referenced above has testimonials from women of all ages and skin types, so maybe that will help.
36Oh, BB, if you want testimonials try Jen and Auds suggestion to me : makeupalley.com, they have lots of bare minerals testimonials on there, I looked at them
37If you want to stick with liquid, but hate the sinking into lines, try Smashbox's primer under your foundation.
38I love BE when I remember to put it on. I keep thinking that I really need to get into the makeup habit... I'm not getting any younger! Can't keep thinking I'm 29! LOL. Thanks to everyone for the tips on the warmth b/c I don't use it, either. I was a "train wreck" when I tried to use it, too! And thanks, Jen, for mentioning MUA's swap. I've got some stuff I'm going to try to unload!
39Oh yeah... did anyone see the pretty compact pink Kabuki brush BE came out with? I want it so bad!
40did you say PINK and KABUKI in the same sentence, neural?!!!! i am so there. i wanted a kabuki brush and what could be better than
41I haven't seen it, but I can guarantee you that Ms Truly Outrageous will google til she finds it!
42i found one but it wasn't by BE. not sure of the quality. is is 10 bucks.
43Found one on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/Bare-Minerals-Gossamer-Rose-and-Pink-Kabuki-Set_W0QQ...
44Your review makes me interested. Thats a good thing
45OMG Wynter! That is ADORABLE!!!
46OMG! I saw the shipping cost and thought it was the price and was totally gonna do a "buy it now".
No, it's like 10 times that. LOL.
47LOL! I bought mine during Sephora's Friends and Family sale, so it was 20% off!
But,
you'll have to wait for next fall for that to come around again.
48Jen76, thanks for the Smashbox primer info.! I can't wait to check out your blogs on the BE stuff. And, it's good to know about the sale in the fall...to get fall/winter colors!!
49I just found this, whip!!! I'm going ot read it all before I try mine
