Hey girls!
I have acne prone skin which has been clearing up nicely due to a acne-busting recipe I found on acne.org...however I'm in desperate need of an exfoliant. The Benzoyl peroxide is doing wonders for my acne, but completely drying out the affected areas. My skin is a lot clearer, but I can feel the tightness and drying affects. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a gentle exfoliant that won't be too harsh for my sensitive skin?
Debenhams
You know what I use...baking soda! It works great and it's natural...the salt in it helps dry up the acne and it doesn't irritate your skin. Take a couple of tablespoons of baking soda with a little bit of water and mix into a paste and gently rub on wet skin....wash it off and see your skin glow!
1im with you i also use Benzoyl but i try and just put it on the effected areas cuz i find it drys my skin as well.. which suck!
so i wouldn't mind knowing if there was something else out there!
2really??! baking soda?? im gonna have to try that when i get home tonight!
3Yea...I didn't believe it either until I tried it...I got my son using it too...and it's worked for him...he just can't use it every night...maybe do it every other night.
4I use Boscia. It's all natural, no chemicals or alcohol and so gentle I use it every day. It's at Sephora.
5Thanks girls! Im going to Sephora next week with some friends, but I might give baking soda a try tonight until I can look into Boscia
6It's funny,i'm interested in buying the Cetaphil soap because i hear that it's non-comedogenic. Also after having washed my face i have used the nivea cream, but in general get something that gives you moisture and is paba/non-comedogenic.
7I've been using Cetaphil FOREVER... and I use their moisturizer as well which I love...but I still need to exfoliate cuz of the Benzoyl peroxide treatment I've been using
Its working though! Im pretty much pimple-free!
8Baking Soda?! Cool.
9Golden Grain Gommage by Arcona is super. You get it at beauty.com or arcona.com. It doubles as a mask.
10I swear by the whole Body Shop Vitamin C line -- they have an amazing face polish and also a lower priced exfoliant. Their moisturizers are also very good for acne prone, oily or combination skin. If your skin is flaky though you are definitely using too much benzoyl peroxide. Maybe you should switch to tea tree oil or just use the peroxide spot treatment when you need to.
11Im thinking thats a good idea rainbowbite...thanks
12I have oily/acne prone skin that is also sensitive. A gentle exfoliator that's really worked for me is Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub.
13I tried the Baking Soda.
"Take a couple of tablespoons of baking soda with a little bit of water and mix into a paste and gently rub on wet skin....wash it off and see your skin glow!"
I'd call it more of a burn. I don't know if my skin is too sensitive, or I rubbed too hard, but my face is beet red right now, and hurts like a b*tch!
Anyone else try this? How was it for you?
14I haven't tried that yet. Mostly because I keep thinking about how there's baking soda in my kittens' litter as well!
15k8- What's the 'magic' acne- busting recipe you discovered? Would love to try as I've have no luck with the diff't face washes I've used the last couple years.. I seem to always have a few 'friends/ zits' on my chin area and it's SO annyoing!
16Can you believe I tried the baking soda again?!
But after I stopped screaming and my face returned to its normal colour, my skin did feel soft and nice.
Just like to say, that I make sure I do it in the shower, when my skin is very wet, and supple.
I found you also need to make the baking soda mixture very soupy.
Be gentle, no need to rub hard.
Also, I found rinsing with tepid water more comfortable then using very warm water.
And the best part, it seems to be making a difference, after only a few days.
17be suuuuuuuuuper careful with exfoliants and acne prone skin. they can rip your pores and spread bacteria, causing you to break out even more. you don't want anything with big hard grains. the best exfoliant for your skin type is dermalogica's daily microfoliant. you can use it every day. it's made out of rice powder. you mix it with water and get it creamy before rubbing it on your face and neck. dermalogica also makes a product called gentle cream exfoliant. it's a mask that you can use once or twice a week. it has no grains, but when you rinse it off your skin is really smooth. you should also try their sebum clearing masque. it's great for acne prone skin and penetrates really deep, getting rid of oil and bacteria. use it after the exfoliating mask once or twice a week!
