I bought this kit today because I love French manicured nails. I think they are classy & simple, appropriate for any occasion. Being a broke, post-college young woman, I can't afford getting my nails done at a professional salon. I've always wanted to get a product like this, so I decided to try it out & share it with my fellow Sugars!
Product: Sally Hensen 5 Minute French Manicure Pen Kit
Kit Contains: 1 bottle of Maximum Growth Treatment; 1 Maximum Growth Color (#2315 Sheer Pink); 1 French Manicure Pen; 1 Sheet of French Manicure Guides (just in case!)
Where Purchased: Walmart
Price: $8.74 + tax
The procedure seemed fairly simple: Apply the Maximum Growth Treatment as a base & let dry completely. Prepare the French Manicure Pen & apply to outer top edge of nail & let dry for 30 seconds. Apply Maximum Growth Color over the entire nail, and finish with the Maximum Growth Treatment as a topcoat.
Personally, I was semi-satisfied with the product. The pen is fun to use & I really love the light pink tint of the nail color. The downsides: my nails are a little shorter than I would like, so it was difficult to apply the white nail polish neatly. It was hard to keep the line straight, so as you will see in the picture below, it is not perfect (& I am a perfectionist when it comes to my nails!). The white tip of my thumb is too thick for my liking as well, but I was too lazy to fix it.
Since it was my first time using a French Manicure Pen, maybe I just need some practice! In the future I might use the French Manicure guides until my nails are longer & easier to paint.
If you don't want to spend money at a salon & have patience & time on your hands (no pun intended hehe), pick up the kit at your local Walmart or drugstore! With some practice & a steady hand, I'm sure it'll look just almost-as-perfect as a professional manicure. Good luck, Sugars!

Yes, but how do you do the left hand? (Haha, with your right hand. Neatly?)
1Well, up there is a picture of my left hand.
Since I'm right-handed, I was worried that applying the pen with my left hand would be a disaster, but it didn't out that bad. It's hard to describe through typing, but I somehow managed to keep my hands steady against my stomach as I applied the pen in a quick sweeping motion. My right hand turned out similar to my left.
I wouldn't suggest this product if you have unsteady hands or don't want to practice & take some time on your nails. I think it takes more than 5 minutes because I like things to be perfect, haha.
2you did agreat job for your first time. with a little practice you'll be a pro!
3Yay! Let's have a manicure party!
4I love it! I think I'll wait for my nails to grow b/c they seriously look hideous now. How long did it take you to do?
5It look less than 10 minutes. Not 5 minutes, but only cuz I was being slow with it, since it was my first time.
6I thought about buying this a few times. Everytime I go to the pharmacy near me, I always check it out but never buy it, because I was afraid of buying it and it wasn't great, so I really appreciate your review, I might just go out and buy it today. Thanx!

7Yes do try it! Hope it works out well for you! I'm going to re-do my nails today since I'm such a perfectionist, hehe.
8i can barely do my roght hand and im left handed , i have very unsteady hands .
9Seems like a neat product. I think it is a little too pink for me, though.
10Oh yeah ! Let's try it out.
11I have the same kit cuz I'm a broke college student too and the bf like the french as well as myself. Classy and clean! But hey I was a little clumsy too so don't worry, your left hand looks fabulous!
12You did a great job, you'll have to post the right hand after you do it!!! Hehe!!!
13I think it turned out pretty good!!
I always suck with those things LOL!!
14Thanks for the comments ladies!
Home manicures are the best, love to save money.
Sofi, they also have it in nude if the one I used is too pink for you. Check out your local drugstore!
15um...looks like you did a good job. bravo!
16it came out pretty for the first try..
17I have one of those pens from Sephora and after a few tries I got better at putting the white on, but I wish I had guides because I am also a perfectionist!
18I have just the pen itself, it was like $5 at walgreens.. I love it!
It makes it so easy to do, especially because the tip is angled, so on my toes I can do a reeeeeally thin line and it comes out almost perfect. I need to do my nails tonight!
19I think you did a great job, I have played with the pens before and they can be tricky, it really does take practice but it looks like your nails are off to a great start. Props.
20Thanks for the review. I'll have to try it out!
21looks good for your first try!!
22cool
23It looks nice even for a first try. I think I'd like to try it even if it takes me a couple of "practice" times before I can get a line decent enough ... At least for that price it's worth the try.
24If you think you can't draw the line the way you want it, here's a great tip. Buy really BAD tape, the kind that doesn't stick to well. Then take a pair of nail-scissors (they have a natural curve that you need) to create a curve in the piece of tape you took. Then place the rounded off tape on your nail up to where you want the white to begin. Now you can just use white nail polish or any other kind of polish you like to make a perfect rounded coloured tip. Before it dries take the tape of, use a topcoat to seal and you're done.
People always ask who does my nails, I do them myself, I'm just really good with scissors and tape. You can create stripes on your nails this way too, just leave enough loose on the edges to make removal easier.
25Thanks for compliments & tips fellow Sugars! It means a lot.
26i got that set yesterday night. i had trouble with it the first time, but i did an alright job the second time. i will keep these for a few days. what got me off to a bad start is that in the instructions is says that you put on a top coat and then draw the white tips on. instead, i drew on the white tips, put my pink color on and then the top coat. i found doing that i had more control...and then i did my toes! i must admit my toes look better than my fingers, which is sad. but the tape tip from Ccee sounds good and i will try it with my kit.
27i tried once to do manicure by myself but i spent 2 hours and it was still a disaster.
28That is a really neat idea but I don't have a steady enough hand to try it.
29how much was it??
