Hi ladies,
About a month ago, I posted the first part of a product review for the John Masters Organics product line. I’ve been using my stash for about a month now, so I figured it was about time for a follow-up.
The original review is posted here: http://teamsugar.com/group/88093/blog/3142111
I’ve reviewed each product from my original order below and included how much of the product I actually used in the past month:
Lavender rosemary shampoo for normal hair
I was intimidated by the very poignant lavender smell at first because I tend to be quite sensitive to strong scents (Clinique Happy, anyone?), but I definitely do not feel like I’m walking around with lavender strapped to my head. The scent is actually complemented quite nicely by the citrus smell of the detangler.
Because the shampoo doesn’t contain sulfates, it doesn’t lather like a traditional shampoo. While this took some getting used to, I never felt like I had to use more product to cover my scalp – in reality I used about a nickel-sized amount (not bad for my super thick hair!).
The best thing about this shampoo is that my hair actually felt rinsed! Because my hair is so thick, I never really felt like I was able to get out all of the shampoo or conditioner from my hair. As a result, my hair feels lighter because I don’t have excess buildup.
The downside to using the formula for normal hair is I don’t get any added protection for heat damage caused by my hair dryer and straightener. Too keep my hair from drying out, I’ve been using my left over Infusium spray, but I’m going to try the hair pomade from JMO in the future.
In about a month, I’ve gone through half the bottle (4 of 8 oz).
Citrus and neroli detaingler
I actually really enjoyed the scent of the citrus detangler. Like I mentioned above, it paired nicely with the lavender shampoo (I was concerned about the two very different scents mixing well). Again, I was able to rinse the product from my hair quickly and thoroughly without having build up.
I have a bit more of the conditioner left than the shampoo, but again I used about half of the 8oz bottle.
Sweet orange and silk protein styling gel
I haven’t actually used the styling gel too often. When I would actually take the time to blow dry and straighten my hair, I would use the gel to help hold my hair in place. Honestly, I didn’t notice much of a difference – in some cases my hair would still do it’s own thing. The nice part about the gel though is there’s no hard or sticky texture added to your hair. The JMO website says this is because the product doesn’t contain any of the plastic-like chemicals traditional gels have.
I’ve gone through about 1/8 of the 8oz bottle.
Sea mist sea salt spray with lavendar
I was a little skeptical about this product, but I always love the texture the ocean gives my hair so I tried it! It actually works! The spray made my hair wavy and held the waves without having to use any other products. One downside is that at the end of the day, your hair does feel a little salty.
The spray nozzle on the bottle is actually quite nice – it mists more than sprays, so I never felt like I was putting too much product on one portion of my hair.
I’ve only used this a few times, so I’d say I have pretty close to a full bottle left.
Dry hair nourishment and defrizzer
Biggest waste of money ($26 CAD!). The defrizzer smells like old man cologne and I didn’t find that it actually nourished or defrizzed my hair. When I used it, I applied it to my ends since they usually take the biggest beating. I used it for the first two weeks or so and then stopped because I didn’t notice a difference (and I got tired of smelling like a man). On the upside – the glass container that it comes in is really sturdy. I dropped it on my tile floor and it didn’t break.
I’ve used about 1/8 of the bottle.
Blood orange and vanilla body milk
This is probably one of my favourite products that I ordered. The cream has a light orange scent mixed with vanilla (it smells like orange Campino candies). The cream itself is light and absorbs into the skin quickly. Anytime I’d wash my hands, I didn’t feel like I had to reapply the cream.
I’ve gone through about 1/4 of the 8oz bottle.
Blood orange and vanilla body wash
The body wash has the same lovely scent as the body milk. A small dollop of the product goes a long way too! Using about a dime size, I was able to scrub my entire body.
I’ve used about 1/3 of the 8 oz bottle.
Gorgeous
Sounds like there was good and bad here.
1Lovely and helpful review(s).
2I am definitely thinking about buying the detangler; could be very useful.
As for the body wash, I used my sample packet (about 3 uses) and while I ADORE the scent, it caused a few breakout on my abdomen. Oh well, I luckily found a new body soap I adore (by Plantlife.)
I really need a detangler and I LOVE citrus scents.
3Great reviews, the blood orange and vanilla body milk sounds great. Can you leave the detangler in or does it have to be washed out?
4You can leave the detangler in too
