For years I have used Mac Studio Fix as my powder/foundation. I had a facial Friday and the esthetician said almost every one of my pores were congested. She asked what makeup I had been using, and when I told her Studio Fix she gasped and asked me to consider something lighter and non-clogging. This really surprised me. I knew my skin had not been great lately, but EWE! I told her I don't like liquid, and I didn't like BE (sorry BE lovers- it feels too heavy/thick on my face). She recommended a few brands, and after my facial I went straight out and bought Chanel Double Perfection Compact in Vanilla. It is oil free and SPF 10. Here are a couple of descriptions of it:
Double Perfection Compact
MATTE REFLECTING POWDER MAKEUP SPF 10
Soft, smooth texture ensures easy application for a naturally radiant, matte complexion. Light-reflecting pigments minimize the appearance of lines. Use dry for sheer coverage, or with lightly moistened sponge for a long-lasting, velvety matte finish
Feature and Benefits:
Silica microspheres, micronized talc and nylon powder give a natural, light makeup result. A complex of sugars and amino acids contributes to the non-drying effect, leaving skin soft and supple. Protects with SPF 10.
So far I am really liking it! It looks very soft and porcelain-like. It is different from Studio Fix in that the Chanel is much lighter feeling on and the coverage is a little less... although it is not too light and its coverage is just enough. Even w/ my current bad skin, my face looks smooth and even. It does look a bit powdery when first applied (I apply w/ a foundation brush and then go back and buff it out w/ my kabuki brush), but then settles w/in minutes.
I am very happy with my purchase.

Hmmmmmmm, now you are making me want to check out how clogging my foundation is!
1Yeah, it was not fun to hear. This was only my second facial ever. I could have been clogged for years! I was a little
when she turned on the big light and looked at me under the magnifying glass.
2Dang, I need to have a facial then
I'm sure I'll be terrified at what I find!
3Yikes!! I can only imagine how clogged my pores must be!!
I actually have a different problem; I feel like my pores are getting bigger (like in that one Sephora catalog, haha). I actually had a facial last week, too, and my aesthetician told me it's because I'm on the oily side. I'll have to take a good hard look at this powder of yours!
4I'm oily, too, Liv
5Wow, I've always wanted a facial so they could unclog the permanently clogged pores on my nose.
6Woot, woot, jg did a review!
I once got in a big blowup argument with a photographer over Chanel vs. Physician's Formula. I like them both the same, since if you have dry skin it won't look that great, the colors are the same, and both look good in pictures (if you don't have the aforementioned dry skin). He was pissed because I didn't spend $50 on a compact I was only going to use for that one day, so I told him to go buy his own and I'd take my makeup and go home. That was the last straw with my makeup career, lol.
7Now I'm feeling self-conscious about my possibly grotesquely clogged pores...
Liv - did your aesthetician tell you why oily skin causes pores to enlarge?
8Yay for finding a better product for you!!
9gosh, i am afraid to know how clogged my pores are.
thats why i think i need a cleansing facial pronto.
10I used Chanel foundation before, but after sometime, i think the power oxidise and the color changes! sort of darker, so i stopped using Chanel.
crazy! I'll have to watch for that.
11I also use Mac Studio Fix. Ive been using it ever since I started wearing makeup...Ive always been reluctant to switch to another brand...but maybe I'll check that one out. Its hard for me though because my skin has yellow tones, not pink tones and I think Chanel has mostly pink tones...I'll have to go there and see. Thanks for the info!! I also hate liquid foundation, as I find it too heavy on my skin too
12ugh, part of the reason why my skin was so bad previously was cos of the clogged pores! my doc was appalled to tell the truth!
still have not found out the reason for it tho
13I definitely need a facial... This time of the year my skin really starts to change from try to sun burned, even when wearing sunscreen!
