I thought I'd post a follow-up to my old post asking for help finding a curling mascara that works for Asian lashes. After a lot of trial and error, I've found a method that works absolutely brilliantly. And I have the shortest, thinnest, straightest, most stubborn Asian lashes possible, so if this works for me, it should work for anyone.
The process might sound complicated and time-consuming, but in practice it's actually very quick and easy. I don't think I spent any more time on my routine than I would doing my mascara the way I used to, and the results are definitely worth it. Let me know how it works for you!
Products
- Eyelash curler
- Maybelline Lash Discovery mascara, waterproof*
- Maybelline Sky High Curves mascara, waterproof
- Tweezerman FastLash** (optional--adds additional length and drama)
Instructions
(Tip: These instructions are for each eye. Do one eye first and then the other, not each step on both eyes. It's important that the mascara doesn't dry before moving on to the next step.)
1. Open both mascara tubes (and the Fastlash if you're using it) for fast access.
2. Give your lashes a good curl with your eyelash curler. (Optional: Use a heated eyelash curler, or heat your curler with a blow-drier for about 5 seconds. This will make your curl hold longer. With this technique, however, I don't feel it's necessary.)
3. Brush a coat of the Lash Discovery on for length.
Optional: Dab a tiny bit of FastLash onto the ends of lashes.
4. Before the first coat dries, brush on a coat of Sky High Curves.
Optional: Repeat the FastLash/Sky High Curves once or twice more for extra length and drama.
That's it! You should now have long, curled lashes that will stay that way all day. It's been about 8 hours since I did this in the morning, and my lashes still look the same as they did when I first put my makeup on.
* If you have a hard time getting your lashes to hold a curl, waterproof mascara is very important. For some reason, it holds a curl much better than any non-waterproof mascara.
** I swear by FastLash. It comes in a tube with a brush, like mascara, but it's actually fine white fiber. After applying a coat of mascara, you tap it on to the ends of your lashes (just the ends--don't even try putting it all over your lashes; I did that once, with disastrous and quite uncomfortable results) and then quickly apply another coat of mascara. It adheres to the mascara and extends your lashes way beyond their natural length. You can keep doing this for a few coats, for false-eyelash-type dramatic eyes. Plus, one tube lasts FOREVER.
Christian Dior
I get it at regular drugstores--Longs and CVS.
Tweezerman usually has special displays. I'd look for them in the cosmetics section.
FastLash is awesome. I hope you can find it!
12 words-- Fake Lashes.
I use them for my Asian short lashes whenever I do make up. No fuss about curling, applying etc.
2ooooh....do you have a picture of your eyes after this process? i want to see how they look!

3Thanks, I'm lucky enough to have long lashes but they do not curl or hold one. The best I've found is BE mascara that doesn't have a brush at all. I'm gonna try your tips and mascara.
Can you recommend a good eyelash curler? I've bough cheap and expensive and still no luck.
4I actually just use a real cheap Revlon curler.
I don't like the ones with the very big pads (I don't know how to describe this). I like the ones with the narrow pads that make a tighter curl.
5Thanks, you're the best! I'll give it a try and I looked, mine are kinda puffy and big.
