Tonight I had plans to clean the house. Unfortunately, when I went to clean the bathroom, I got sidetracked. And instead of cleaning my sink, I decided to do a quickie Clara Bow lip.
It's the first time I tried this, and so it's not the best. I think I need to be more precise in my application — the shape is too rounded, not crisp enough. Maybe I'll work on it some more and do a tutorial on Bella. So I figured I'd ask for your opinions in case that appeals to you. Is this something you'd want to learn how to do, just for fun? Or is it hopelessly dorky?

It wouldn't be something that I personally would try. Cute hat!
1Yeah, it's definitely not for everyday wear. Thanks on the hat comment. I used to have a coat that matched and I felt like such a lady.
2You did a great job! I would have never been able to pull that off!! I love the hat!
3ooh it reminds me of my porcelin doll I had! You look pretty but I would NOT!!
4I don't know what the fudge a clara bow is??? But I have tried that lip thing before, I called it the "Geisha" lip. It looks better if you dont line it, atleast that's what I think, and powder on the concealed parts that don't get lip color, also putting some powder (Like an eyeshadow that matches) over the lip color helps to make it look less blotchy and more painted on. I would do a mini version of this with a lighter lip color for a party or something, but the bright red I would have to save strictly for Halloween.
5Clara Bow is an actress from the 1920s who had "cupid's bow" lips.
I think this is a fun look, Bella! I like the idea of trying it with colors that are similar to each other. I might have to try that out.
6I like the colour of the lips but not sure about the whole Clara thingy... really love the hat though!
7awwww! it's so cute. definitely not hopelessly dorky. i'm not gonna walk around with lips like this every day, but i would LOVE to know how to do it...especially if i ever get the chance to do a twenties themed party or costume. i absolutely adore your hat and would love to see your matching coat, bella. where did you find them?
8I got SO excited when I saw the title of this post! I think it's a great idea for a stylized look, I wish that I'd thought of it!
9Not dorky at all! I think you look so cute and the hat...well perfect!
10I think it's fun to play around and try these looks. Not sure if I would wear it out that much.
BTW I love the hat. What happened to the coat
?
11I agree with Urban Mommy that it looks more like a geisha lip. VERY cute, though. Not for every day, but it's fun to play around with.
12My bottom lip is too fat; I think I would look ridiculous with my lips painted like that, but it looks great on you!
13It'd be a fun technique to know for playing around!
Looks great. I don't think I could do that, though.
14It looks so great on you! I think you did an awesome job. What is the colour of the lipstick you used? I love it!
15I like the look on you--I was obsessed with the Smashing Pumpkins and when their double-album came out years ago they did a lot of their videos with so many cool stylized makeup looks like this one--and I think it works on you! Wouldn't work on me, but still...looks very cool!
16I love these lips! Very cute!
17Thanks for all of the comments. I didn't think of a traditional Geisha lip, but now I totally see it. I'm pretty sure the lipstick is BUrnin' by MAC, but it's at home so I'm not 100% sure.
I'll keep refining my skillz until they're perfect, and then I'll post a how-to. MIght take a while but I want it to be just right!
Oh, and to answer your questions: The hat came from a college friend, and the coat was from J. Crew. I loved it, but I went to some dumb, huge holiday party a few years ago. Lots of tipsy hipsters there, and somehow my coat got knocked to the ground and landed on a light bulb. The light bulb left a bad burn that ruined the coat. Sigh.
18That looks great on. I like what you've done.
19Bella - this would be a good one to do around Halloween - this would be a perfect makeup job for a flapper and it's a super easy costume to do.
Like everyone else said, CUTE hat!!
20bummer about that coat!!!!
21Seeing as I barely have time to apply regular makeup in the AM due to having to take care of my son I don't think I would try this. But I find it hilarious that you stopped cleaning your bathroom to do this! I think you are in the right career path!
22The lipstick does look like a MAC colour Bella. I'm a lipstick-a-holic so may have to make yet another trip to the MAC counter for burnin'.
23Haha I've tried this and I can never get it right... I just look silly, like I've been drawing on my face. Which I suppose is true.
I totally do the whole makeup-as-procrastination-method thing. I'll start cleaning/organising something, and then I'll see a pretty piece of makeup, and whoops, there goes a few hours... it's really not very sane, but hey, it's good fun
24so interesting but i think everyone would be STARING at my mouth if i were to do something like this.
25the hat adds to the whole look of the lips and not make them look so ridiculous somehow.
OMG! I'm so thrilled that you're considering featuring this as a tutorial! I've been trying to figure out how to do a Clara Bow lip for ages and it's the ONE makeup look I can't ever EVER get right. I'm guessing my lips are just too "long"? Anyway, yes this look can be very dramatic but it need not be; one can use a more subtle shade and adjust the look for every day wear.
26No thanks, not for me.
27Make sure you don't miss the Poppins Bella!!! Would you want me going after a stupid person in your family?!? By the way I can't even think that in my head without hearing that guy's voice. Love always, Mr. F
