Much as I love indulging in new products - tearing them open and trying them for the first time is always a buzz - I also like making my own skincare at home. It’s so cheap that it makes me feel less guilty about splashing out on an expensive treat once in a while. I use extra virgin olive oil as a face cleanser and I swear it works just as well as Liz Earle or Eve Lom – I’ll admit the smell isn’t as delicious but if I’m making a £48 saving, I can live without the scent! I also use bicarbonate of soda as a gentle but brilliant facial scrub and honey as a radiance boosting face mask (although I’m always tempted to lick it off). I love reading about new home skincare remedies, which is why I was interested to find a thread which not only lists tonnes of fabulous home skincare recipes but also recipes to ‘copy’ designer skincare formulas such as Dr Hauschka:

Some of the posts are old but still useful. I’m definitely going to try the Homemade Decleor Ylang Ylang Aromessence Oil for my pesky hormonal acne.
Has anyone tried making homemade versions of skincare formulas? If so I’d be interested to hear about it!

I only have done the baking soda scrubs and the aspirin mask...
I have problems with acne, I drink a lot of water, always remove my make up in the night, put astringent, face lotion.. still.. got acne...
I think I am going to do the chamomile vapors this time... my mom and my former math teacher swear it works...

making your own products is extremely dangerous! there was an article about it in elle a few months ago...its one thing if you are going to take grocery items and mix them in a pot -- you know a guacomole mask or whatever -- but once you start ordering chemicals and mixing them..it can be VERY dangerous!! there are stories about people who burned their faces off!! dealing with chemicals is no joke, and even something as simple as vitamin c, when mixed with the wrong thing can cause a major problem.
2i say stay away...far away...
oh I wouldn't dream of using chemicals! I was talking about using natural stuff. thanks for the tip though!
