Just curious... how did the rest of you become absolutely obsessed with cosmetics and other beauty products?
For me, my aunt, formerly a makeup artist for Chanel, did my makeup for my wedding last fall. It was the beginning of the end for me.

I was in 7th grade. My mom took me to the Estee Lauder counter and I have been hooked ever since. I started young
1Growing up I just loved lip gloss, and used to watch my mom get ready. But I think it pretty much started when I was pregnant with my oldest son. I went to a Mary Kay thing at my mother's friends house. I spent the money on the whole kit and caboodle LOL and have been addicted to make-up since. But never really spent too much on it, besides the Mary Kay, until recently. My sister introduced me to Sephora.
2My best bud who is a few years older than me used to put makeup on me when I was pretty young just for fun- she was very good. I guess hanging out with someone a little older got me started a bit earlier. I've always had fun putting it on and trying different techniques.
3It all started when I was invited to join a new little group called 'Beauty Product Junkies'. Before that all the make up I really had was mascara, lipgloss and nail polish.
4when i noticed that my my 14 year old stepdaughter (11 years ago) had nicer makeup than i did and her makeup looked wonderful. i started with getting into clinique used that religiously for many years (still used drugstore brands too) then i bought a couple things from MAC and Laura Mercier online and used those brands. Then when BPJ came and I got into MUA I was introduced to more brands and reviews not to mention Sephora online. And seriously once I was introduced to Sephora that was all she wrote. Now I am addicted and most definitely a Beauty Product Junkie!
5I started using Clinique and Estee Lauder in the 90's. I blame my BE addiction on my goof's on here. They started making blogs about eyeliner/shadow and stuff like that so....I don't really buy many drug store brands anymore except for maybe Almay eyeshadow for blues~ I'm waiting for someone to post up the best oil Tzone stopper ever. :waitingpatiently:
6I am not really one... but I am in this group nonetheless... it makes me experiment and want to be a better product junkie
7I don't even know. I played with my mom's makeup when I was little. I started buying my own (cheap) stuff in like 5th grade, and through middle school. In high school I discovered the wonders of Sephora, and it's just gone downhill from there.
8Drugstore when I was about 11 or 12. I used to love getting those covergirl lipslicks
9I never had money for this stuff growing up. As an undergrad paying my own way, I was never able to afford it either. Last year, after being out of school for a few months, I started my first real job and one of the first things I did was head to the local BeneFit counter to buy myself some nice makeup (I told myself it was for work). I've been completely addicted ever since!
10I always played with mom's makeup when I was little. I remember getting in trouble for spilling her loose powder once. She didn't have a whole lot of makeup though, just enough to look pretty on a daily basis. When I was in HS I just loved makeup and was always at the drugstore testing colors out and buying little things. I even did a few friend's makeup for the Prom. My friends knew me as the makeup girl. Even to this day I love drugstore makeup, I can't help myself. There are some good things there, you just have to figure out what they are. Sadly I've also thrown out a lot of stuff that wasn't so great. Just now I am getting more into higher brands, and since some are not that much more expensive, I think it's worth it. BPJ is a great resource, because there are honest reviews from people who really tried these products. I don't trust reviews in magazines, it is mostly an advertisement for them, and a way to fill up space in their pages.
11I agree Romaniagrl, the reviews in this group are much more valuable to me too.
I started out when a friend who managed a Clinque counter at the time told me to come in for a makeover. She picked really great natural colors and showed me how to put it on and I've been hooked since. I wore Clinique exclusively for years, then Mary Kay for one year and last year, I wanted a really nice glowy for a wedding I was in so I decided to try that Bare Minerals makeup I'd seen on SoapTalk. I did a search for Bare Minerals and one of the top links was Sephora. That's what made me a complete junkie. I order reguarly from Sephora, Stila, MAC, Urban Decay and Benefit.
I also find some really great drugstore products here and there.

12I don't even remember now. :| I think I always liked playing with makeup and colour, and somehow it just evolved into being obsessed with MAC and Urban Decay.
13Hmm. I don't remember any set moment that did it. I just have always loved makeup and fashion. It's always been part of my life.
14I like playing with my aunt's make up since I was young, and even trying on her high heels. Then I guess I sort of forgot about it when I started school. But the interest has always been there, I started buying my own make up stuff when I was 15 or 16, and I have never looked back since, though when I started work, I bought more and more stuff, but still in a restrained kind manner.
Like the rest said, reading reviews of stuff helped, and when I joined this group, I became a real BPJ - which is a good thing, because I realised there are so many like-minded people out there! That got me exploring more make-up stuff and tricks, etc so I guess the rest is history.
Oh and also there is this TV show on cable (a Taiwanese show) which is a total BPJ dream, the make up artists do make up demo and tricks and the products they use also make me wannna go out and buy buy buy. And magazines too, when they feature all the must haves etc etc... so I would say make up is my favourite hobby now!
15In high school I really enjoyed playing with my eye make-up, even though it was pretty basic. I started getting in MAC eye shadows, which progressed into some of their other products.
Most of my make-up was mostly concentrated on eye products until early last year when I developed a severe case of acne.... and a Sephora opened near me.
I was forced to try a variety of difference products to help fight my skin battles and it sort of introduced me to some new brands. With the Sephora being so handy it was impossible to not get sucked in!
I must say, it is because of this group that I feel like I'm more capable of making better beauty decisions. I research most products before I buy them and all of the BPJ members opinions play such a huge role!

17I became obsessed in Jr. High with Bonne Bell lipgloss, do you remember the one's that were really big and fat - LOVED 'EM. I have several brands from drugstore to higher ends. I also do a lot of research before I purchase so I have a better understanding of the products available. I just wish we had a Sephora closer!!!! Or maybe it's a good thing that the nearest one is 3 hrs. away or I would be broke! I think my addiction has really increased these past two years, now that I am 40, I don't want to look it
18It seems like I am still in the way
But I promised that I will not buy any more make up until I buy a nice case for putting it. I have a big Pink Estee Lauder Bag, with like 3 more Estee Lauder bags inside with all my make up. I decide I need a case to organize better.
Still, I kind of break my promise because Yesterday I succumb to a Avon Catalog...
19My mother =)
20She always wanted my sister & I to wear makeup (we were both tom boys)
Till one day I started to experiment with it when I was 17. ..lol
I love makeup now & so dose my sissy =)

I kinda always loved play makeup sets as a kid. I worked at a sort of local Mid-Atlantic makeup store for a few years after high school, until they went out of business. That job only made me more of a makeup addict. I've always mixed my own nail polishes, eye shadows, lip gloss and lipstick out of other products too.
21I haven't actually seen my real hair color since I was about 12 either. That's the age my mom let me first highlight it.
I just love the way makeup can change you! And orange lip balm, horrible addiction to orange lip balm.
It started when I entered college since I got to experiment more than what I was used to put during high school (baby powder, a little blush, lip balm). Though, I never got around to collect such huge stuff like what other beauty junkies here are collecting..haha
I'm still in college so I'm still considered as a 'dependent' by my country's standards! lol ^__^ ..maybe, I'll be a true beauty junkie as soon as I get those huge
paychecks! ^_^
22My sisters all started wearing makeup by 12 or 13. They wore Baby Luv scent, and used the Bonne Bell lipsmackers. The Dr. Pepper flavor was the favorite in our house. I didn't wear makeup until I was in my mid-20's and in college. (I am an all around late bloomer.) I always considered myself a plain person -- not from a looks standpoint, but from an attitude standpoint. I liked things that were simple and didn't require effort. When I went to college I started out simply (of course). Then I discovered that I loved beauty products. There are enough beauty products out there that are affordable that it is easy to become a junkie -- even on a tight budget. I still mix drugstore with Sephora. My base is cover girl, but my eye shadow is Stila, etc.
