I chose to slice and I am so glad I did.
As most of you have already seen thanks to Bella we now know, Urban Decay Primer Potion has terrible packaging. This genie like shape is not conducive to getting every last drop of the miracle cream. But I have to admit I was a little skeptical about the amount that was left over.
You see I have been running low for awhile and been far too lazy and cheap to buy another so I have been pulling and tugging and bending my wand in contortionist like ways for a few weeks and I had convinced myself that MY Potion didn't have much left in it. BOY WAS I WRONG. I would venture to guess I had at least 1/2 or 3/4 more potion left!!!
That is insane.
So here is picture proof of my little project:
Cut open. Note - You will need a very sharp knife and a strong arm so BE CAREFUL!!
Scooping out the right side - Oh it gets better just wait
One side down another side to go.
Scooping out other side - I hit the Motherload!
Up close. I needed a bigger tub.
My arm was too tired to cut open the very bottom though I did try. I might wait for hubby to get home for that.
After finishing this I have to say that while I am sooo excited I have at least another few months (or more) before I need to purchase another Primer potion, I also can't help but feel a little angered that I had to go to such lengths and I feel awful for all those people who didn't have a clue about it and have thrown theirs out. What a waste.
The moral of the story (or project) is Urban Decay needs to seriously revamp the packaging because what we have to go through to get what we paid for is really ridiculous. And to make amends with their customers I also think that they should give some kind of discount on next purchase for anyone who threw theirs out without knowing about what was still left.

that is actually a very good idea. I do agree, they should redo the packaging.
1Wow! That's insane! I totally agree they need to change the packaging. It's ugly, unhygienic and wasteful!!
2I can't get over how much is left in the tube! I'm definately doing this when I get home!
3Oh my gosh!!! That is crazy! I am basically out of PP - or so I thought. I am definitely going to do this.
4you are not out, Linz. trust me.
5Wow! That's crazy!!!!
6I did this a couple of weeks ago and I was shocked to see how much was still left in the tube. I only wish I knew about this earlier b/c I have thrown out what I thought was empty tubes!!
7Yowza! I mean, the bottle is cute and all but I'm sick thinking about the one I threw out before I saw this on Bella.

9This is awesome. So glad I could help!
10Wow!
11Wow!
12this truly is crazy!!! I am going to have to find a little container for the 'leftovers'.
13Yowza! I've taken the little stopper out at the top, yielding lots more product, but I think I shall soon have to slice as well! It does seem to be a real rip-off if you don't slice it open and get all the rest out...
14I'm going to mine in just a few minutes. I thought I was almost out too. I'm glad I was this before I threw mine out and bought another one!
15Insanity!
16It looks like there is like 2/3 of the product still left in there. That's insane!
17so do we all need to go on Urban Decay's website and let them know that we've all caught on to this deception?
18Holy Crap!! Great experiment!!
19I just did the slice and holy crap!
20This makes me wonder about mascara. Wow.
21Aud, do you think it would've been a little easier to cut with a serrated blade?
22Wowza!
23There is so much in there!!!!!! What a waste if that was all thrown away
I think everyone should write to UD and tell them to change their packaging cause its making people throw tons of product
24I've already thrown out two tubes of this shizz because I thought it was empty. I am so pissed right now.
25i do think we need to start an online petition to urban decay!
sticky it would have been really easy with a serrated knife but it has to be really sharp and i didn't have one sharp enough.
26I'm sending them my pictures for sure. I also posted this (well, mine) on my blog.
27that is crazy, I think I may start cutting everything open from now on, just in case
*Thank you. My real name... is plain... Jane Jones. (Alice - Closer)
28I am going to get The Boy to cut mine open, or I am sure I will lose a finger.
29Ditto Linz, I'll lose a finger if I try that!
30Wow, there's a ton left.
31I'm so doing this!

Wowza!
33I hope they see all of this and customers complain!
34That is so wrong! What a waste!
Hey you know it might be easier to cut that
35if you use a Dremel tool. If you or the hubby
has one, they make cutting plastic a lot easier
I wonder if they already know and don't care because they know that people throw this out sooner and buy more. *sorry for the runon sentence*
36Holy cow! That's a lot of left over product. Kind of pisses me off thinking about the 3 tubes I have thrown away. Just imagine how much was left in those!
37come to think of it (this one is my first tube), i really didn't use it a whole lot.
but i don't think i was able to get maybe eight or nine wandfuls out before it started "acting" like i had little to none left.
so layla if you have already thrown out that many then i really do think you have been robbed.
38Fantastic job, Aud!!!
I am still on my first tube (I dont need to use it everyday) but I will def slice it!
Thanks for posting!
39That's such a good idea.
40
to Aud for this awesome step-by-step!
41I have a dumb question. What is in the primer potion? Does anyone know? I mean it looks like a thick foundation? What is in it that makes your eyemakeup not crease and makes it stay put?
42just off the top of my head and from what I know about regular face primers, the key ingredient is dimethicone polymers. I wouls think it would be the same for the eyes. Must.check.out.now
43Great post!
44audrey, here are the ingredients from the web site:
Ingredients:
Isododecane, Talc, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trihydroxystearin, Triethylhexanoin, Isopropyl Lanolate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Propylene Carbonate, Phenoxyethanol, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Methicone, Isobutylparaben
May Contain:
Mica, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride)
The only thing I recognize is beeswax! It has dimethicone like I thought which basically form a protective layer on the skin.
45Wasn't there a post ages and ages ago about using monistat soothing care gel as a primer? I know, ick, but it's main ingredient is dimethicone as well. Haven't tried that, though.
thanks sofi!
46Talc and mica probably play a part in that. Talc is carcinogenic though, so watch out for eyelid cancer.
47yeah- just noticed the talc as the second most abundant ingredient there. That's no good
48I use Trish McEvoy Base Essentials instead of Urban Decay PP but I have a similar problem when finished. I can see tons of product but it seems impossible to dig it out. I will try this on my TM primer and see how well it works before I toss the tube. Thanks for the info/demo.
49I checked the BE Prime Time eyelid primer ingredients and I don't see Talc or the scientific name for it listed.
I had a sample of it back in December and I REALLY liked it. I think I might buy it when my little tub of UDPP remnants are finished.
