MartiniLush Smashbox Master's Class Beauty Breakthroughs review Feb 7, 2010 10:06 PM I am a sucker for makeup "kits", and when I saw this one advertized on the Sephora website, I practically salivated at the thought of having it! This kit contains: - Waterproof Eye Shadow Palette - Brow Wax Pencil - Lash Detailer Mascara - Poured Photo Op - Cheek Stain - O-Gloss Shimmer It only cost $59 and I happened to have a $50 Sephora gift card burning a hole in my pocket, so I went ahead and splurged! What really sucked me in was the Waterproof Powdered Shadow palette. Waterproof POWDERED shadows???!!!! I had to try them. And I have to say that they really deliver! The shadows are lovely colors and have quite the staying power - my eye shadow looked as if I had just applied it, 10 hours into my day! I hope Smashbox comes out with more of these, because I am sold on them! The Brow Wax pencil is useful for keeping brows neat and tidy, but isn't something I ever would have bought on it's own. The Lash Detailer mascara has a very tiny brush, so you really can coat each lash with mascara. I am always looking for a good mascara (it seems to be my life's quest!), and this one is good, but it takes a while to put on because of the small brush. The Poured Photo Op had me pretty skeptical, at first. It claims to cover darkness and act as a brightener for the under eye area. And it does work! In all honesty, I don't have a huge problem with dark circles, so I can't vouch for it's effectiveness for everyone, but my eyes really did seem much brighter - as if they had a bit of "pop"! I will definitely be using this product on a regular basis. The Cheek Stain was underwhelming. It seems that they are trying to copy Tarte's amazing cheeck stain product. This is nothing even close. Definitely wouldn't waste my money on this product again...... I love Smashbox O-Gloss. It provides an individual pinkish hue and this one has a bit of shimmer in it that is so flattering. I would definitely pay full price for this product in the future. Overall, I think my money was well-spent for the volume of product that I got and the quality of most of the products. I think this would be a great way to try out the Smashbox line if you are new to it, or to add a few new tools to your beauty arsenal. Overall, I give this kit a definite thumb's up!
ClearSkinDiva14 Marcelle Moisture Rich Moisturizing Foundation - Really great stuff! Feb 7, 2010 10:48 AM   One of my favourite products has to be this Marcelle foundation. It is fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic, perfect for those with sensitive skin. I have combination skin that can be sensitive and prone to dryness and this foundation is probably the best I've ever tried. It's creamy, light weight, and provides good coverage for those who need it.   What I love about Marcelle, is that their products are good quality at a reasonable price. Aside from makeup, they also have skincare lines available. What's also a plus? They don't test on animals from what I've looked up. Betty Wayne Trader Joe's Nourish Shampoo Feb 6, 2010 12:11 PM I love love love this product. Purchased on a whim as I waited in those interminably long Saturday morning lines at Trader Joe's, this is the most amazing shampoo I have ever used, bar none. If Trader Joe's ever goes out of business, I will stock pile this item before they do.   I listed the ingredients below, as you can see, most of the ingredients are natural and/or organic. AND, it comes with a GREAT price tag: I think this cost betwen $2 and $3. If you don't have a Treader Joe's supermarket near you, I'm sure you could order this on-line.   I have dry and curly (but sexy!) hair and only wash it every 2 or 3 days. This products thoroughly cleans any styling products out of my hair, while leaving my scalp well hydrated. Some people may find that this product leaves their scalp oily, but I think of it as just not stripping my hair of its natural oils. I have not tried the conditioner yet, but plan to get it on my next trip there; I'll let you know how it works soon!   Shampoo Ingredients: Purified water, organic rosemary oil, organic valencia orange citrus, organic mango, organic lemongrass, organic ginko biloba, organic echinacea, organic willow bark, organic sea kelp, organic chamomile flower, organic textured soy protein, organic lavender, organic grapefruit, C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Tocopherol (Vit E), Citric Acid, Methylparaben, propylparaben, sea salt, botanical fragrance   Conditioner ingredients: Purified water, organic rosemary oil, organic valencia orange citrus, organic mango, organic lemongrass, organic ginko biloba, organic echinacea, organic willow bark, organic sea kelp, organic chamomile flower, organic textured soy protein, organic lavender, organic grapefruit citrus, Tocopherol (Vit E), Acetamide MEA, Cetyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, Methylparaben, propylparaben, botanical fragrance   **** edited 2-7-10 ****   It was brought to my attention by Sheilamamo (below in the comments) that this product contains parabens, which I now know to be toxic. I sent this letter to Trader Joe's via their website: "I love your nourish spa shampoo because it removes styling product build up and does not strip my hair of its natural oils. I recently recommended your nourish spa shampoo on a beauty product rating website, and it was brought to my attention that it contains parabens, a toxic chemical preservative that mimics estrogen in the body. Parabens are believed to cause breast cancer. It shocks me that such an oversight could be made; Trader Joe's seems very dedicated to the health and well being of its shoppers. Are there any plans to remove parabens from this product, or do you have a product that has a 100% natural plant based formula? Please let me know, I look forward to forwarding this information to my friends on this beauty product rating website." When I get a response, I'll let you know!
Betty Wayne Aquaphor from Eucerin: Great for Dry Hands! Feb 6, 2010 11:53 AM This is, by far, the LEAST glamorous product on my shelf, but I've found it so indispensable, I have to mention it. High temperatures in my city mid-winter often dip down into the 10's. Regular lotion just doesn't do it for my dry hands; but this does. I smooth it on before I go to bed and I don't even need lotion for the rest of the day. This gets a full five out of five stars.
